Visit The Blue Ridge Mountains
Weekly Blog!
It has been another busy week here at all three offices... Mountain Top Cabin Rentals, Cabin in the Mountains and North Georgia Cabins & Land! We are very optimistic about the remainder of the year and the typically busy fall that is just around the corner. The weather is still very mild with hot days, cool nights and some rain here and there. The rain we have had for the past few days has been good for the water level in the Toccoa River and Lake Blue Ridge. There are just a few more weeks of tubing for this year and whitewater rafting on the Ocoee is still in full swing until the beginning of October!
This weekend is the annual Blue Ridge Rodeo put on by the Kawanis Club. Locals and visitors alike enjoy this yearly tradition at the fairgrounds. Cowboys from all over come to Blue Ridge to compete and they always have a really entertaining activity for the kids in the crowd! It is so funny to see dozens of little ones chasing a calf around the arena trying to be the lucky one to pull the ribbon off it's tail to win the prize!
Apparently the word has gotten out about the gorgeous sunsets in the Blue Ridge Mountains! We have never gotten so many requests for cabins with sunset views! The great thing about the mountains is that the sunsets are beautiful from anywhere here! Every cabin may not have a due West view, but the warm shades of orange and yellow falling onto the blue mountains is still breathtaking from just about anyplace in town. There's nothing like sitting in a rocking chair or porch swing in the late evening watching the sun slip behind the mountains and hearing the singing katydids in the background.... That feeling of total relaxation and serenity is something that should never be taken for granted.
Fun Facts:
- Katydids usually sing in late summer during the evening and nighttime hours
- The males have song-producing organs located on their front wings and the female chirp in response. You may have guessed it... these songs serve as a function of courtship!
- Katydids are bright green and in the grasshopper family
- The sunset is at about 8:20 pm this week and will move up to about 8:10 pm next week.
- See below the sunset times for the remainder of the month.
