April Showers Bring May Flowers!
Springtime in the North Georgia Mountains
Good Morning My Faraway Friends!
It's a beautiful sunny morning in the North Georgia Mountains! It did storm yesterday but thankfully the clouds moved on during the night. It feels splendid outside if I do say so myself. Spring is starting to appear everywhere you look... the birds are back, the daffodils are in bloom, and the trees are beginning to awake from their long winter nap. You can see the tiny buds on each tree just waiting to burst through with either lush green leaves or fragrant new blossoms! It has been such a cold, rainy/snowy winter here we're all grateful to feel the sunshine. Every winter, I always feel like everything is so barren, colorless, and harsh looking. But, then spring comes with the sun, birds, bees, and trees! Everyone seems to be in a chipper mood after winter too; like they are blooming as well. This is the time of year to start planting flowers and getting your gardens ready to plant for vegetables too. I will actually be planting a few rosebushes and some periwinkle in the next couple days. With the warm weather and blooms of spring, comes some rain too. As they say, April showers bring may flowers!

Lake Blue Ridge, The Toccoa River, and Fightingtown Creek are all fabulous for fishing. The lake is home to bass, bream, catfish, large and small mouth bass, walleye, (pike) perch and crappie, so it makes the area popular with anglers. Actually, its the only lake south of the Great Lakes where Walleye (Pike) are caught. Since I was a kid, my dad would take me down to the river for trout fishing. Trout are caught with worms on Toccoa River and Fightingtown Creek. Trout Season for 2010 is March 27, 2010 - October 31, 2010. Fishing is something that's pretty inexpensive but a fun activity to take the kids to. Its a good way to get them outside, closer to nature. Fishing Licenses are required and I do highly suggest purchasing online in advance. Click below.. http://www.georgiawildlife.com/fishing
Mr. Mark Burger, local fisherman with 8.9 lbs Largemouth Bass. This beauty was caught in Lake Blue Ridge just a few days ago. Mr. Burger did release the fish after the photo was taken. What a nice guy!
Until next time my friends, may you always see the lighter side of things!
